Partnership Empowers Youth to Protect the Environment; Samsung to award winning Club $25,000 technology makeover

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J., SEPTEMBER 18, 2017 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America have partnered again for the 3rd annual Climate Superstars Challenge. Launching today, the environmental contest is designed to ignite science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) interest among kids and teens and encourage them to raise awareness about climate change.

The Climate Superstars Challenge is the first challenge of its kind that aims to motivate young people to do their part by taking action to help protect the environment. As a part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America‘s strategy to ensure all members graduate from high school STEM ready, the Climate Superstars Challenge works to engage and educate youths ages 11 – 13 in various activities that help to protect the environment.

From now until November 5, club members will complete tasks centered on core themes such as improving energy-efficiency, conserving water and reducing waste, including identifying energy efficient ENERGY STAR products, planting trees, recycling electronics, and more. Results are captured via an online gaming platform specifically designed for the contest and students are awarded with Samsung products for their outstanding efforts. The grand prize winner will receive $10,000* in Samsung products for their Club space.

“Change starts with education, and educating our youth on how they can help protect the environment is more paramount today than ever before,” said Ann Woo, Senior Director of Corporate Citizenship, Samsung Electronics America. “Our partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America for the Climate Superstars Challenge aims to empower children to become environmentally responsible citizens and teach them the impact everyday actions can make across their communities.”

“The Climate Superstars Challenge provides a program that helps members make a connection with the issues in the world, while educating them on how they can make a difference in the Club and beyond,” said Edwin Link, National Vice President, Educational Foundation & Academic Innovation, Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “We are excited to continue this partnership with Samsung because together we are influencing the next generation to protect the environment and motivating them to become good stewards of the planet and their communities.”

BGCA Clubs can register to participate in the Samsung Climate Superstars Challenge at climatesuperstars.rallyware.com. The grand prize winner will be announced on November 9.
