A full-day crash course in energy codes! This workshop will provide a sampling of code basics, compliance software training, and what's new in codes. Attendees will also get a chance to present their questions directly to DOE & PNNL staff.

Tour the Tower at PNC Plaza (Monday, July 17):
Rising 33 stories near the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, the Tower at PNC Plaza opened in October 2015 as PNC's new corporate headquarters. The building, which hosts more than 2000 employees, incorporates many state-of-the-art technologies, including a double-skin façade and solar chimney. The tower was designed to exceed LEED Platinum certification and to be the greenest office building in the world.

The tour is scheduled for Monday at 1pm and is free of charge for full conference attendees. Advanced registration is required and space is limited. [UPDATE: This tour has reached capacity--request to be added to the waitlist.]

The Energy Innovation Center is a not-for-profit organization who engages community leaders, educates the workforce and incubates businesses to support clean energy markets. The Center recently transformed a vacant property in the City's Lower Hill District into a 200,000 square foot beacon for sustainable energy technologies. This LEED Platinum facility adheres to the highest standards of energy efficiency while preserving the historical character of the building--one of the few LEED Platinum buildings that is also on the National Register of Historic Place.

Solar Energy Workshop (Thursday, July 20):
Building officials and design professionals play crucial roles in the deployment of solar energy, helping to ensure proper system design, installation and safety. This workshop will cover critical strategies for the successful incorporation of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology in buildings, including how to communicate with clients about the benefits of solar, available resources, and key considerations for code officials, plan reviewers, installers and a variety of other professionals. The course will also provide an introduction to building code provisions impacting solar installations from the 2017 NEC, 2015 I-Codes and the International Solar Energy Provisions (ISEP). This course is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) SunShot Initiative, and is led by the Building Codes Assistance Project (BCAP), the ICC Solar Rating and Certification Corporation (ICC-SRCC) and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC).

Jeffrey A. Johnson Award
The Jeffrey A. Johnson Award recognizes excellence and leadership in the advancement of building energy codes. This award is presented annually at the National Energy Codes Conference. Award nominations were due May 5, 2017, and this year's recipient will be announced in Pittsburgh.

Continuing Education
Continuing education options are provided for members of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and International Code Council (ICC). The DOE Building Energy Codes Program is an AIA and ICC Continuing Education provider, with learning units/credits available for most conference sessions. Pick up forms at conference Registration desk.
Travel Assistance
DOE has a limited number of travel scholarships available. DOE will determine the exact amount based on individual circumstances. The money must be used for travel expenses (transportation/lodging/food) and may not be used to pay conference registration. Scholarships are announced in advance but payments are made after the conference based on documented expenses submitted by the recipient.
DOE uses various criteria to determine who will receive the scholarships:
Organizations. Priority is given first to local government building officials and staff, then to state energy office staff, then to non-profit organizations.
Geographic diversity. DOE wants to encourage people to attend from across the country. States that have historically not attended the conference or have no one registered will be given priority. DOE will not pay for more than one person per city to attend.
New attendees. People who have not attended the conference previously will have higher priority.
Timing of application. Apply as early as possible to ensure that you are considered.

Location and Lodging
The conference will be held at the Marriott City Center in downtown Pittsburgh. A block of sleeping rooms is available at the group rate for a single room of $129 plus tax (government per diem) on the nights of July 16-20, 2017. Reservations must be made by Sunday, July 2, 2017.
